Doctorate in Physical Sciences by the UAM in 2000. Pre and post doctoral stays in UPENN (USA), JRC (Italy), UCL (England), FORTH (Greece) and Harvard (USA). Tenure track position equivalent to "Assistant Prof." (2005-2008) and tenure position equivalent to "Associate Prof." (2008-2012) in Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (Greece). Visiting Professor at ETH (2010-2011), and at the University of Freiburg (Switzerland) (2012).
Since 2011 associated to the UC3M, Dept. of Bioengineering, becoming a Visiting Professor at UC3M in September 2012. Marie Curie Career Integration Grant felow (2013-2017). Award in Scientific Excellence by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2016. Founding member of the European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI) and member of the ESMI Executive Committee. Principal investigator of 7 European projects being "project manager" of an Integrated Project of € 11M budget, including the European project "FMT-XCT" where the research group of UC3M and the former group of J. Ripoll jointly participated (2008-2011).
He has directed 6 doctoral theses, one of them co-directed with Juanjo Vaquero and one co-directed with Manuel Desco, both defended in UC3M. Author of more than 100 articles in indexed journals, with more than 6900 citations and an h-factor of 38 (according to Google Scholar). He has given more than 35 invited talks in academic centers and more than 40 lectures invited to conferences, among them a "Keynote lecture" at CMIST Industry Day 2011, Zurich. Author of the book "Principles of Diffuse Light Propagation", published by World Scientific Press (2012). Inventor of 10 patents, several being under exploitation by Perkin Elmer and 4D-Nature. Consultant for Perkin Elmer (2010-2012), Visen Medical (2003-2010), Scanco (2004) and Genex Tech (2002). In July of 2013, he co-founded 4D-Nature Imaging Consulting S.L., a company dedicated to in-vivo optical imaging.
